Neil J. (Adi)

September 13, 2023, 9-year-old Neil, later known as Adi, was rushed to Georgetown Public Hospital with severe burns covering 30% of his small body, allegedly due to child abuse. Swiftly admitted to the burn unit, Neil received immediate care from skilled medical staff. However, recognizing the gravity of his injuries, the doctors at GPHC contacted SHEA Charity for assistance, and plans were made to airlift him to the United States for emergency surgery.

Thanks to the efforts of SHEA Charity, Neil, now preferring to be called Adi, was transported to the US for treatment. However, his journey to recovery proved arduous. Multiple surgeries were required to address his extensive burns and infections. Tragically, Adi endured not only physical pain but also psychological trauma from his harrowing experiences.

Despite the challenges, Adi showed remarkable resilience. Though his injuries were severe, he remained determined to overcome them. Yet, his struggles persisted, with complications such as respiratory issues necessitating further medical interventions.

Throughout his ordeal, Adi was not alone. Supported by SHEA volunteers, he received round-the-clock care and unwavering dedication, not only by SHEA, but also his incredible US and Guyana based medical team.

As Adi continued his fight for survival, the community rallied behind him, offering hope and assistance.

Months passed, marked by surgeries, setbacks, and small victories. Adi's journey is far from over, but with each passing day, he grows stronger, buoyed by the love and support surrounding him. And though the road ahead remains uncertain, one thing is clear: Adi's resilience and the compassion of those caring for him will see him through this life-altering ordeal.

Neil expresses thanks and gratitude.

Adi’s story of survival is truly heartbreaking. He has faced indescribable physical and emotional abuse, that no person should ever have to face, especially a child.

He is now learning how to walk again following fractured legs and ribs; his tiny body coved with bruises in various stages of healing.

In labored breaths he extends gratitude all of you.

Adi Underwent Tracheotomy Surgery

Four months after enduring severe burn injuries, Adi remains in a critical battle for survival. Enduring numerous surgeries to address a multitude of injuries including broken bones, lacerations, infections, and extensive burns, his journey towards recovery has been fraught with challenges.

Compounded by a narrowed trachea from inhaling fire, Adi faces respiratory distress and breathing difficulties. Despite multiple attempts to widen his trachea proving futile, a tracheostomy surgery has been performed as a final resort. This procedure aims to facilitate oxygen flow to his lungs and prevent suffocation, with his doctors closely monitoring his condition to determine its necessity on a permanent or temporary basis.

Throughout Adi's ordeal, he has been supported by the unwavering dedication of SHEA volunteers, who have put their lives on hold to provide him with round-the-clock care. As Adi continues his fight, SHEA appeals for support to sustain their vital mission, relying solely on public donations to aid children like Adi in their journey towards healing and recovery. Your contribution can make a life-saving difference in Adi's battle for survival.
