Aden Persaud

January 1, 2022

6-Year-Old Aden Persaud is diagnosed with Craniopharyngioma (a rare type of tumor near the brain's pituitary gland). Due to the severity and urgent nature of his condition, he needs immediate surgery and extensive hormone replacement therapy.

Unfortunately, the advanced treatment and technology necessary to save this young child is not yet available in Guyana. Therefore, SHEA Charity has accepted his case and we are working with doctors in the United States to coordinate lifesaving treatment for Aden.

Please join us in saving this young child by making a donation today.

Update: February 3, 2022
We are so very happy to share that we have secured treatment for Aden at a Harvard affiliated hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

Since accepting Aden’s case one month ago, we have faced MANY challenges and endless red tapes, but we continued our advocacy on his behalf, leading to his acceptance at this top US hospital.

His medical team is made up of some amazing individuals who has gone above and beyond the call to work with us in coordinating Aden’s medical transfer and subsequent treatment. Of course we don’t need to stress the complexity of brain surgery, and while we cannot predict the outcome, we are confident that Aden will be in very capable hands.

We are currently at the final stage of working out minor details before Aden can travel and begin treatment.

Sincere thanks to everyone who donated to help save this child. We couldn’t have done this without your help.

Update: February 26, 2022
Little Aden is on his way to the USA to begin medical procedures, the first of many is scheduled for March 1st.

There are tough times ahead for this little guy and his family, but his positive demeanor and energy will see him through his ordeal. Many thanks to everyone that has supported us to this point.

Update: March 19, 2022
Since arriving in the United States on February 26, Aden has had many appointments to meet with his medical team, including doctors, nurses, therapists, social worker, and other support personnel. He has also had several tests, scans, and general appointments to prepare him for treatment. During one of the routine scans, it was discovered that a cyst had formed next to the tumor in his brain. This discovery caused his doctors to pause his initial treatment plan to focus on removing the cyst. On Thursday, March 17, Aden underwent a semi-major procedure to drain the fluid build up in the cyst and have it removed. He is currently in the hospital and recovering well. He is expected to be discharged today or tomorrow and will return to his temporary home in Boston, to rest and recover.

In the coming weeks he will once again be evaluated and monitored to ensure all is safe to proceed in addressing the tumor in his brain. If all goes well, he will begin treatment on April 7.

Update: June 14, 2022
Despite some setbacks in the beginning of treatment, Aden is doing exceptionally well as he is nearing treatment completion.

His doctors are optimistic that once this initial phase is completed, Aden can have all of his follow up treatments in Guyana, since the tumor has responded well to proton therapy.

As you can see from “Mr. Poser” himself, he is in great spirits and spreads his infectious positivity to everyone he comes in contact with. This positively has so far been a catalyst in persevering through challenges and setbacks he’s encountered to this point and will continue to see him through his ordeals.

Update: August 15, 2022
Aden has completed his treatment and will be returning to Guyana on August 17, 2022. Upon his return, he will rejoin the neurology clinic in Guyana where he will have regular follow-up visits to monitor his progress and continued recovery.

We would like to wish Aden good health, long life, and much success in his future career as the best cricket out of Guyana!
