Chayanne Parboo

August 1, 2024

Imagine the heartache of being told your child has cancer. It’s a pain so profound it can bring you to your knees. Yet, you fight through the darkness, standing by your child with unwavering strength, and you emerge victorious, having beaten the monster of illness.

But now, imagine facing that same nightmare again. After three years of triumph, your child, just 8 years old, is told the cancer has returned. This is the harsh reality for Chayanne and her family. Diagnosed with leukemia at just 3, Chayanne fought valiantly and achieved remission. Sadly, her journey has taken another heartbreaking turn.

Chayanne, now 8, was recently diagnosed with retinal detachment, a condition not treatable in Guyana. She was flown to the United States for surgery, where a tumor was discovered behind her right eye, testing positive for cancer. Chayanne is now undergoing tests to determine the type and extent of this new battle.

SHEA Charity, which supported Chayanne through her initial diagnosis and treatment in 2019, has once again stepped in to advocate for her. We are committed to fighting alongside this brave child and her family through this challenging time.

We urgently appeal to our Guyanese community: join us in supporting Chayanne. No child should have to face cancer, let alone twice. Please help us stand by Chayanne and her family as they navigate this new battle. Your support can make a world of difference.

Retinal Detatchment Diagnosis

June 2024
In a deeply touching development, our beloved cancer warrior, Chayanne Parboo, once again needs our support. Many of you may recall that at just 3-years-old, Chayanne Parboo, was diagnosed with leukemia (Her initial cancer journey can be viewed at the lower portion of this page).

SHEA Charity stepped in to support her through her courageous fight, which she ultimately won. However, after her arduous victory over cancer four years ago, Chayanne now faces a critical new challenge—Retinal Detachment—which is causing her to rapidly lose her vision.

Despite her young age, Chayanne has demonstrated immense bravery and resilience. Now in remission, her dreams of seeing the world in all its beauty is fading fast as her vision deteriorates each day. SHEA Charity is once again rallying behind Chayanne, just as we did during her initial battle, and we are asking for your help to assist us in supporting Chayanne. Your donations will directly cover the costs of her essential eye surgery, which is not available in Guyana. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help Chayanne move closer to restoring her vision. Thank you for your continued kindness and support. Together, let's secure a vibrant future for Chayanne.

Chayanne’s First Cancer Diagnosis

January 26, 2020

Little Chayanne Parboo has been hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital in Guyana, since December 8th, 2019, where she has been diagnosed with Leukemia (ALL).  This once bubbly, energetic little girl is now fighting for her life as she struggles with spiking fevers and is in excruciating pain.

Her blood count has been, and continues to be, critically low, which poses many challenges for her. In addition, the treatment Chayanne needs is currently not available in Guyana. As a result, her parents were advised to seek immediate overseas treatment to save her life.

SHEA Charity received an urgent request to assist Chayanne and accepted her case on January 13, 2020. We have since been in close communication with her doctors to monitor her condition while we seek treatment for her in the US.

Update:
We are happy to share that we have secured treatment for little Chayanne and we are currently working on her transfer to the USA. However, we are in great need of financial support to make her transfer possible.

Update: February 3, 2020
With the help of our generous donors, including many businesses in Guyana, we were able to secure funding for Chayanne’s medical transfer and treatment. She departed Guyana on February 3, 2020, accompanied by her mother and father. On February 6, 2020, she began cancer treatment which is expected to last approximately 2 years.

Update: August 21, 2020
We are pleased to share that Chayanne’s cancer is in remission. She will be completing her initial treatment phase at the end of September, followed by 8 weeks of a delayed intensification and interim-maintenance phase of treatment, after which she will enter maintenance phase with oral medication. If all goes according to plan, Chayanne should be home in Guyana by Christmas, with follow-up visits to the USA every few months.

Update: January 26, 2021

We are ecstatic to share that Chayanne safely returned to Guyana today, and her cancer is in REMISSION!

She must continue maintenance treatment for approximately one year under the caring and capable hands of her parents and medical team in Guyana; however, SHEA Charity, along with Chayanne’s U.S. based medical team stand ready to provide support should she need us anytime in the near future.

We would like to extend sincere gratitude to EVERYONE who provided support in one way or another. Thank you!

Please donate and help us save little Chayanne!
