Chitram (Vinesh) Ayana

Chitram Ayana (Vinesh) is a thirteen year old who has been diagnosed with cancer of the liver. His condition is critical and he is in need of urgent medical treatment, which is not available in Guyana.

He has mild hepatomegaly with malignant neoplastic etiology (enlarged liver due to cancer) and it is spreading rapidly; already reaching the right psoas muscle and left anterior abdominal wall. There is also a lesion seen in the greater curvature in the stomach, which has metastasized to the right femur (thighbone and pelvic bone), very close to the lungs.

Chitram is in unbearable pain and is being treated as an outpatient while his family seek overseas treatment. The cost for outpatient treatment and pain management is approximately $100 USD per day, a cost which the family cannot afford. Please help them by making a donation to save their son.

Update: January 6, 2019
SHEA Charity accepted Chitram’s case and we are actively seeking medical treatment for him in the United States. We are also asking for donations to assist with treatment and travel costs.

Update: January 22, 2019
Chitram arrived in New York on January 12 and was immediately placed into treatment. However, on January 22, 2020, after his doctors received all of his lab results, the family was given the results of a very poor prognosis. He was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of Sarcoma Cancer, for which treatment is not readily available. Chitram was taken off all medication and the hospital stopped all treatment. The doctors advised the family to return home to Guyana, where he should be placed in hospice and kept as comfortable as possible until he passes.

We at SHEA could not accept that fate for Chitram, so we fought harder and continued out efforts to find a sarcoma specialist.

Our efforts paid off and on February 4, 2019, Chitram was accepted at a specialized medical facility in the US where he was placed in a six-months program to aggressively treat his condition. Three-months into treatment, he was given a positive prognosis with a new treatment term of one year. Chitram’s doctors are incredibly optimistic that his cancer is curable and they are excited to move forward with treatment.

Update: June 21, 2019
Chitram’s cancer is in remission. We are grateful to everyone involved in getting Chitram to this point. He will return to Guyana in early July 2019, but will need several follow-up appointments in the US.

We are raising funds to help pay for his medical treatment, living expense, and basic necessities.

See his Social Media campaign on Facebook.

Please donate today and help us save his young life.
