Matthew Zaman

When 7-year-old Matthew Zaman walked out of his yard on December 18, 2017, he could never have imagined that it would be the last time he would walk again. Matthew was hit by a mini-bus which left him completely paralyzed; he now has a trach in his throat which allows him to breath and his meals are fed to him through a feeding tube. No child should have to be in this position but this is Matthew’s reality.

At his age he should be a rumbustious little boy getting into mischief, playing with friends, and eating his favorite snacks, but all Matthew can do is look on from his bed.

Please help us help Matthew by making a donation today.

This fundraiser is to facilitate a second medical opinion for possible treatment in the United States of America. If Matthew has a positive prognosis and can recover with advanced medical treatment, funds raised will be used to cover his treatment related expenses. However, if his prognosis is poor and medical intervention would not be of benefit, funds raised will be used towards his living expenses; including a comfort suited bed, medication, medical supplies and other needs.

Update - August 9, 2018

Over the past two months, SHEA has actively advocated for medical treatment on Matthew’s behalf. We have consulted with several hospitals and specialists in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and a few countries in the Caribbean, including Cuba; however, they have all concluded that Matthew suffered irreversible brain damage and will require life-long care.

Unfortunately there is no quick fix that will be of significant benefit to Matthew, though, with continually consistent therapy, he will regain some mobility, as shown in this photo where he is now sitting up with assistance. He will continue to receive therapy through the incredibly amazing team at Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre.

All funds received by SHEA Charity for Matthew will be turned over to his mother so that she can care for him with some ease.

Matthew’s entire family would like to extend sincere gratitude to everyone who helped in one way or another. They remain humble and thankful. Please feel free to reach out to the family directly to offer your assistance whether monetary or supplies for Matthew. Monetary donations can be made in-person to his mother, Bibi Shanaz Khan, or via her bank account at Demerara Bank Limited - Account# 1022755. Bibi can be reached at 592-659-6766.

Once again, thank you to everyone who offered a helping hand to this family. Please direct all further donations to Matthew’s mother, as SHEA will no longer accept donations on his behalf.
