Munesh Narayan

March 24, 2023

7-Year-Old Munesh Narayan has been diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma (a rare form of cancer of the bone which typically affects children and teenagers). After several visits to multiple doctors with complaints of pain and swelling in his leg, Munesh was admitted to The Georgetown Public Hospital, where the diagnosis has been confirmed.

Due to the severity and urgent nature of his condition, he needs immediate treatment, which will consist of cancer management and possible amputation of his leg where the cancer has been detected.

The advanced treatment and technology necessary to save this young child is not yet available in Guyana. Fortunately, Munesh’s case was presented to a team of doctors on a medical mission to Guyana, and they have expressed willingness to assist with treatment in the United States. However, they are not able to offer the treatment free of charge. They have estimated the cost to be between USD 100,000 - 300,000.

SHEA Charity was contacted by the parties involved in Munesh’s care management and we have has accepted his case. We are currently working with his medical team to coordinate this lifesaving transfer and treatment, but we need your help.

Please join us and help save this young child by making a donation today!

Update: May 3, 2023

Since his arrival in the United States, Munesh has had a host of appointments to meet with his medical team and to complete all preliminary and diagnostic tests. Unfortunately, the cancer has metastasized; however, he is in a world-class facility with extremely caring and compassionate doctors who specialize in the treatment of Osteosarcoma.

His treatment has begun and will consist of 8-10 weeks of chemotherapy, followed by surgery, then another round of chemotherapy.

Update: August 1, 2023

Since arriving in the United States on April 18, 2023, Munesh has had a multitude of medical services and treatments to combat his cancer diagnosis. The first phase of his treatment began with a series of chemotherapy sessions spanning eight weeks.

For the second phase of his treatment following chemotherapy, Munesh underwent a rotationplasty procedure. (Rotationplasty is a surgical procedure used to treat bone tumors in children that occur near the knee. The bottom of the femur, the knee, and the upper tibia are surgically removed. The lower leg is then rotated 180 degrees and then attached to the femur. See more about the procedure here: https://youtu.be/zuMH3u0OLhA

The surgery was successfully completed on July 10, and Munesh remained in the hospital under close observation of his medical team as he healed and recovered. He has also been receiving extensive psychological therapy and supportive care to help cope with these drastic changes.

Phase three of Munesh’s treatment will begin this week and will consist of six rounds of chemotherapy spanning a course of six to eight weeks. Upon completion of this round, his doctors will conduct a full evaluation for next steps.

We would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone who assisted in one way or another to help Munesh receive this lifesaving treatment. Munesh’s family remain extremely grateful for this opportunity and extend their thanks and appreciation as well.
